01 Is endoscopy painful?
Most patients tolerate endoscopy with throat anaesthesia and, when needed, sedation. You will be counselled about fasting, medicines and recovery before the procedure.
02 What is the difference between endoscopy and colonoscopy?
Upper GI endoscopy examines the food pipe, stomach and first part of the small intestine. Colonoscopy examines the large intestine after bowel preparation.
03 When is endoscopy recommended?
Persistent reflux, difficulty swallowing, anaemia, vomiting blood, black stools, unexplained weight loss, or screening and surveillance as advised by your gastroenterologist.
04 How long does it take?
The procedure itself is usually short. Fasting, consent and recovery time make the visit longer. Exact timing is explained when you are scheduled.
05 Can polyps be removed the same day?
Selected polyps can be removed during colonoscopy when it is safe. Large or complex lesions may need a planned therapeutic session.
